Outline of role and responsibilities

·         Working as part of a team of 3 with addition relief milkers and students at various time of the year

·      Main milker – Generally doing one milking per day, however at times it may be required to do two milkings

·      Identify and treat sick and lame cows.

·      Record all treatments in Farm Diary

·      Monitor and control SCC

·      monitor and manage herd health

·      Monitor and manage parlour hygiene


These are the core responsibilities of the role. Outside of these areas there will be working through many other areas of the business and backing up other staff members in their roles (calving, grass budgeting, calf rearing, maintaining cubicle beds, pressure washing among other things). But like wise the other staff members will back you up in your role.

No night time calving will be required unless in exceptional circumstances

The remuneration package will depend on experience and ability, and a two bedroom house on site is available as part of the package or else a straight salary depending on circumstances. There is good opportunity to progress through the business to grown into a management role.



Business outline


Woodtown Jerseys milk 510 Pure bred Jersey Cows, with 140 Autumn calvers and the balance in the spring. We calve for 6 weeks in Oct/Nov and then for 12 weeks starting on 25th of January. Cows are selling 600 kgs of MS per cow with a SCC of 125, we feed 1.7T of Concentrate per year and buffer feed for the early part of the breeding season

Cows are milked through a new 54pt rotary parlour with auto ID feed to yield and drafting. Cows are all cubicle housed and beds cleaned twice a day with a bobman. We also have a hospital parlour where all sick and freshly calved cows are milked.

The farm is 500 acres all in one block with good roadways and grazing infrastructure
