Overview

We require an experienced and dedicated working herd manager to take day-to-day responsibility for a 400 cow herd near Lockerbie in the Scottish Borders.

The farm enjoys excellent facilities – the bulk of the unit being built around 2010 – and modern equipment in light and airy sheds designed with cow comfort in mind. The Holstein herd is milked three times per day through a 36/36 GEA parlour fitted with auto ID, ACRs and excellent cow flow. Cows are cubicle housed all year round and achieve highly respectable yields and milk hygiene levels – crucial for meeting the farms premium dairy contract. Working alongside the owners you will take an active approach to working with the herd, knowing that to truly manage the cows, you must be amongst them. You will undertake a proportion of the milking, herd health and welfare tasks, foot trimming and fertility work alongside Genus RMS. Experience in a similar role is essential, as is a proactive, preventative approach. In return for your efforts we offer a competitive salary with bonus schemes, regular time off and accommodation free of rent and council tax close to the farm and less than 10 minutes from the M74/M6.
