Overview
We have a Farm Assistant position available for the 20219/2020 season, beginning June 2019. Here is a little about the position available.
We are an enthusiastic, hardworking young couple who are 50/50 Sharemilking in the Waikato region of the North Island. We milk 425 crossbreed cows through a herringbone shed on an immaculate 130 Hectare property which is mostly gentle rolling in contour.
We Spring calve (July) and operate on a grass-based system with grass silage, maize, summer crops and palm kernel being feed as supplement throughout the season.
We envisage our team member will work both alongside us and at times independently helping with all aspects of the day to day running throughout the season to maximize their time here on a NZ farm, duties will include but are not limited to:
• Milking
• Calf rearing (We rear 130 calves)
• Break fencing
• Weed control
• Feeding out
• General farm maintenance such as fencing
• General stock work
Applicant must have previous dairy farming experience, a good work ethic and willingness to learn.
In return we will provide a furnished tidy and warm 2-bedroom house which may be shared with one other team member. We are more than happy to help with setting up bank accounts and any other things that are needed for their time here in NZ.
The farm is located 5 minutes from the rural town of Otorohanga which is located in the central North Island (roughly 2 hours from Auckland).
Otorohanga is located within easy driving distance of plenty of tourist attractions and towns, I’ve listed a few below:
• Waitomo Caves
• MT Ruapehu
• Tongariro Crossing
• Lake Taupo
• Rotorua
• Beaches, we are closer to the west coast
